Benefits of Online Therapy
- There is no travel time so you take less time out of your day
- It makes it easier to attend sessions if you feel anxious about leaving home, using public transport, being with other people, or other aspects of trips out
- You can still be in the house if you have caring responsibilities
- It can be easier to focus on memories and emotions in your own space
- You can have all the things around you which feel comforting and if you live with someone who is supportive it can be helpful to know that they are nearby in another room

Preparing for an online therapy session
- Download Zoom on your laptop or mobile and turn on your microphone and video
- Internet connection is difficult to change, but keep this in mind when thinking of a private place to have your sessions
- Have your charger plugged in or ready to use
- Find a quiet and private space where you won’t be disturbed and close the door
- Position your laptop or mobile so your face and upper body can be seen and if you are using your mobile, find somewhere to prop it up so your hands are free
- Attach earphones if you would like to use them. This is optional, but it can make it more private if there are other people in the house and it’s another way of leaving both your hands free during the session
- Try to have the light from the window or lamps in front of you. If the light is behind you it can be hard to see you
- Turn off message alerts so you’re not distracted during the session
- Even if you are using your laptop or tablet, keep your phone to hand so we can use that if there are any internet problems
- Be ready to join the Zoom meeting at the arranged time
